PALE CITY

topstroke.png

The Pale City is the biggest chapter in terms of unused content. It has the most amount of leftover levels in the files and puzzlepiecesystems. There's also the ApartmentHub and The Outerlimits, which were old versions of the pale city.

These are older versions of the Rooftops levels that was used in the 2019 trailer. (The only difference is the lighting and the chair over there on top of the building in the first image).

This is an old version of the Facade section we go through before witnessing the viewers' suicide. It is much closer to the concept art in this version. In this version, it would've lead to the collapsing hallway section instead of the suicide scene.

This is a blockout version of the elevator puzzle we got in the final game. The way it works is basically the same, but the part of the level at the top is the main difference.

This is an earlier version of the hallway the thin man slowly walks through twisting the hallway. The old thin man model is used in this level instead of the final one.

LVL_1_072_ThinmanSneak is a level where you have to sneak through a room as the Tv Eye (that i deep dived into in the unused models section) blasts occasionally searching for the player. If it sees you, the thin man grabs you.

LVL_4_190_ApartmentTVRoomHole is a level that is heavily inspired by the concept art. It shows a viewer staring at a tv that is hanging and shining through a hole. In the final game, this level was reworked into the one we fall into after the suicide scene.
EXTRA: The chair next to the table with a Lamp in the corner is actually used in a picture in the final game. (the chair is actually out of bounds but pretend it's there.)

As i've mentioned in the unused animations section for Mono, we would've had a sequence where we had to tune an Antenna. Not much is known besides this level (LVL_4_200_ApartmentAntennaTuning) and the model.

image.png

This level is an earlier version of the one where we trick a viewer into falling from a building to use the tv. The tv in this level actually plays one of the unused TV audios i've shown in the unused audio section for TV-related stuff.

image.png

LVL_4_520_EnterTransmissionRoom is a room filled with Glitching Remains staring at Mono as he enters the Transmission. Honestly, seeing this in the final game would have been epic, as if they are all rooting for you to win and get six back. Also this level is why the comic/snatched kids models are in the files, they are used as glitching remains here.

image.png

LVL_4_525_TransmissionEnterHallway is the old hallway for the transmission, which was originally going to be the end of the Pale City chapter, instead of the beginning of the transmission one. A TV texture in-game uses a photo from this level's walls.

There was going to be a Laundry Room sequence in the pale city which is where we would originally meet the viewers. There's a picture of the drying room in-game.

There used to be a way bigger section in a Shopping Area/Mall in the pale city rather than the short one we get at the final chase of the viewers. A part of it got reused in the electric floor puzzle with the cart.

image.png

The Barbershop was a section Tarsier did try to implement in the actual game, except i'm not sure if there would be The Barber in it though. It started in his apartment and we would go through until leaving through the actual shop. There were also moths in it.

I still wish we had the chance to see it in the final-game.

image.png

There used to be a whole apartment complex section that led to a conductor's apartment, leading to the train station that would take us to the Tower.

I'll never forgive them for scrapping this movie room >:(

Probably the most interesting part of these is the fact we would've gone to the maw and even visit the janitor's bedroom.
(I remember finding these in the demo's files back in 2020 and being disappointed it didn't happen in the final game)

THE ORIGINAL ln2 beginning

topstroke.png

According to the old levels written in the puzzlepiecesystems, the game actually started in the pale city's shores, and we would go through the city until we ended up in an apartment that would be our main hub for the rest of the game.

image.png

The game originally started in the pale city's beach, you would go through a tutorial sequence through the city's ruins until you ended up in an alley that would lead to six.

image.png

You would then follow her into an empty apartment that would happen the iconic scene of Mono trying to gain Six's trust, which actually worked in this version, as they started working together right after. She would then take you to her "nest"(?) which is probably where she took shelter.

image.png

Something cool about this is that the thin man would have been revealed way early on in the story. He would be a recurring antagonist in every chapter. This sequence involved us sneaking from him, and there seemed to be another kid with us?
Unfortunately this is where the first levels stop.

THE APARTMENT HUB

topstroke.png

The apartment hub would basically serve as a hub in the game that we would always return to after finishing a chapter. Till this day i have no idea why we would be going to these places and returning. The entire hub is basically a bigger version of the Sad Apartment where six is taken and we meet the thin man in.
